Comprehension Ninja: Inference and Beyond for Lower KS2 presents 24 high-quality non-fiction, fiction and poetry texts and photocopiable activities to help embed comprehension skills across the curriculum. With accompanying question sets that challenge pupils to effectively summarise, predict, and infer from the text, this practical resource will save teachers time and supercharge pupils' reading comprehension skills. Difficulty increases through the book to enable teachers to meet pupils where they're at.
This great new book (actually two books - one for Lower KS2, and one for Upper) by @VocabularyNinja guides children to develop their inference skills, with clear progression and a huge variety of texts to keep them engaged. It encourages children not only to think about meaning but also to justify their answers with evidence - something I know from my own classroom experience can be a common challenge in KS2.
The flexible format of both books means that they can be used for whole-class lessons, small-group interventions, or for individual practice, and they also offers scope for assessment and extension. What stands out to me is the structured approach that builds inference step by step across different genres. This approach means that teachers are given a bank of fresh ideas for scaffolding and classroom application. This is a practical, adaptable, and inspiring tool for supporting children’s reading development. As with all the Comprehension Ninja books I've read, this comes highly recommended.
